Since graduating from the UW in 1994 with his BA/BM in jazz piano performance, Alex Guilbert’s career as a pianist, composer, sound designer and educator has taken him in many directions and sparked collaborations with many of Seattle’s finest musicians. His stylistic approach started with modern jazz, but his fascination with early jazz and stride piano was given voice by his 10-year Tuesday night residency at the hallowed New Orleans Creole Restaurant in Pioneer Square, as the pianist of “Holotradband”, a 7 piece Chicago style vintage jazz band.

He’s continued to straddle the line of old and new, recording “On the Ground with the Alex Guilbert Trio” and “Bard Songs”, which have gotten significant radio airplay and streaming success. Alex has been the curator and host(also performer) of “Piano Starts Here,” a popular piano concert series at the Royal Room in Columbia City, sponsored by KNKX and the South Hudson Music Project. He also co-leads a vintage jazz washboard/clarinet/piano trio called T.O.P. Jazz Band and is a frequent mainstay as a leader and sideman for the dance scene. Alex also spent almost 20 years as a composer and sound designer in the video game industry, and has many titles under his belt.
